The Gush Katif Committee (AKA Friends of Gush Katif) has three central functions:
  1. Working with the government and the various Gush Katif communities in order to promote solutions to the varied needs at both the temporary sites and the permanent communities.
  2. Maintaining a strong connection between the former Gush Katif residents including the youth and young adults, to ensure that the second generation grows-up with a healthy connection to Gush Katif.
  3. Voicing the opinion of the Gush Katif people in crucial areas.

Miriam Shlisel was arrested while protesting the disengagement plan. One month ago, at the height of Operation Protective Edge, she was summoned to court.

1,000 Gush Katif trees were uprooted in the disengagement. During the past 9 years, they've been waiting in the Gilat nursery by Ofakim. Now, before Shmita, in a JNF operation, dozens were replanted in new Gush Katif communities.

The annual event commemorating the desecration of the Gush Katif synagogues took place at the Hurva synagogue in Jerusalem. Just as that was rebuilt, so we hope to one day rebuild the Gush Katif synagogues.
